Did you know one of the best times to see and hear Florida’s wildlife is after the sun sets? These are a few reasons to consider taking an evening wildlife tour at Babcock Ranch:

Many of Florida’s Native Animals are Nocturnal

Raccoons, owls, and possums are just a few of the nocturnal native animals in Southwest Florida! You are unlikely to see or hear an owl during the daytime hours but on an evening wildlife tour, the chances are much higher. Additionally, you’ll be just as likely to see alligators on a nighttime tour as you are on a daytime tour! Interestingly, alligators’ eyes glow red at night because of something called the “tapetum lucidum” at the back of their eyes. This makes spotting them after dark even more exciting!

Evening Wildlife Tours Give You a New Perspective on Nature

Shining red alligator eyeballs, loud owl hoots, and scurrying raccoons are just a few of the noises and sights you’ll see on an evening wildlife tour that you likely wouldn’t enjoy on a daytime tour! Evening wildlife tours offer a completely new perspective of an area and can make you feel like you are in a completely new environment— even if you’re exploring an area, you’ve seen hundreds of times in the daylight!

Evening Wildlife Tours Offers the Bonus of Stargazing

One thing you may have the opportunity to see on an evening wildlife tour that you definitely won’t see during a daytime wildlife tour is the stars! Stargazing is a fun added bonus to an evening wildlife tour that you may have never considered. Additionally, if you plan your tour for a night when the full moon is out, this can help naturally light up areas and give you the opportunity to see more wildlife!

Babcock Ranch Offers Monthly Evening Wildlife Tours

Evening wildlife tours are available once a month at Babcock Ranch, giving you ample opportunity throughout the year to try out this unique experience. The “Sounds of the Night Tour” begins at 5:30 pm on the last Saturday of every month. Reservations are required so make sure you book your spot for next month’s tour before spots fill up!
